"We just want to make movies. Whether it's your Aunt Ethel's dog's wedding or the remake of 'The Rock Horror Show' on the moon. We're interested."

nondogDV

nondogDV is a small Hong Kong-based DV production partnership. Despite the 'noble aspirations' expressed on our manifesto page, we're not snobs or breatharians (a group of people who claimed to have spiritually developed the ability to live on air!)

Below are the services and facilities we offer to finance the day-to-day running of nondogDV:

  • Promotional video magazines/features
  • DVD/VCD/CD-Roms brochures and advertisements
  • Website content and streaming media (Flash, QuickTime, etc.)
  • Music videos
  • Straight-to-DVD feature videos and films
  • Infomercials for broadcasters

Creative Options

nondogDV is equipped to make straight-to-DVD movies and digital video movies for release at digital film festivals. We have the capacity to shoot quality video that can be successfully transfered to film, a perfect option for film producers looking to make low-budget projects.

nondogDV shoots and edits its movies in the DV (PAL DV25 420) format utilising both 4:3 and 16:9(anamorphic) ratios. We have invested heavily in developing a film look through a combination of filters and lighting equipment.

We welcome proposals from people who have backing for their own projects and could use our assistance. We are writing scripts and plot outlines to pitch to people who like what we are doing and are in a position to make small investments.

Low-Budget Movies

The most exciting thing about filming in DV is its adaptability to a guerrilla-style of film production. The small size of a crew and cast frees filmmakers up to shoot in locations most major film companies would have to spend weeks and huge amounts of money organising for. This is not to say that DV filmmaking doesn't have its gruelling moments, but then that's the fun of guerrilla filmmaking.

The upshot is that the advent of DV is putting the creative power back in the hands of those with an idea, opening a window of opportunity for the re-emergence of the classic autuer.

Straight-to-DVD market

In the same way that straight-to-video low-budget films were a feature of the home-video revolution of the early '80s, so to do DV produced films have the capacity to feed the growing straight-to-DVD market. This is a good way to bypass the need to make expensive film prints of your film for cinematic release. Increasingly, the straight-to-DVD market is finding its niche through distribution through the internet. The key to its future success is the making of content, content and more content. That's where us low-budget filmmakers will have a role to play.

Pre-Sell your Movie with a Trailer

Looking to get a bigger budget for your feature film project? Roger Corman, Hollywood's most successful low-budget film-maker, often raised finance for his films on the strength of a movie poster and an idea. The modern day equivalent to this is to shoot a promotional trailer, the kind of thing you see at a cinema advertising upcoming films. A low-budget trailer shot on DV with the film look can be a powerful promotional tool in interesting prospective investors in your film.

Big-Budget Movies

Think DVD and all those extra features viewers have come to expect with their DVD copy of your film. nondogDV can make video diaries or the making of documentaries to compliment your DVD release.
